Windows to the Past

One of the more outstanding facets of our church building is the stained glassed windows which illuminate the sanctuary. These windows in the auditorium and foyer were purchased by member of the church, some as a memorial while two others were purchased by organizations within the church.

The four small window in the auditorium and the ones in the foyer along with the one in the back classroomJunior Union Window were purchased by the church at large when the present building was erected in 1909.

The northwest window on the back wall was purchased by the Junior Union. It is hard to guess how many hours of labor it took for these young people to raise enough money.Ladies Aid Society

The northeast window on the back wall was purchased by the Ladies Aid Society. These women should b credited for keeping the church bills paid at times during the history of the church.

The large stained glass window on the east side featuring a picture of Bethlehem, i.e.: the birth of Jesus, was given as a memorial to John (1817-1902) and Julia (Snyder) Wheat (1823-1908).Wheat Memorial WindowSnyder Memorial Window

The other large stained glass window on the west side of the church featuring the crucifixion of our Savior was given in memory of Madison O. Snyder (1840-1907), a brother of Julia (Snyder) Wheat.

More than one source has stated that much discussion as to which of the large windows should be on the west and which on the east. In fact it was the cause of much dissension at the time.
